Albuquerque Publishing Company to Install DSI's Circulation System

August 2005

Laurel, MD – Data Sciences, Inc., a leading provider of newspaper circulation and advertising software, has signed an agreement to install DSI/Circulation at the Albuquerque Publishing Company. The 150,000 daily/Sunday newspaper has the largest circulation of any publication distributed in the state of New Mexico. The agreement reinforces the strong industry acceptance of the Oracle™ Windows-based system that was first introduced by Data Sciences in 1996. Albuquerque Publishing Company joins an elite list of major publications to install the DSI/Circulation Oracle based Client/Server system.

When asked why DSI was selected, Gene Clapp, MIS Director for Albuquerque Publishing Company, indicated there were numerous reasons for selecting DSI, "The DSI/Circulation System will offer us greater functionality and the most flexible solutions for addressing our readers' needs and expectations. Our evaluation team was quite impressed with DSI’s Client/Server Technology and the integrity of the system, which will provide us with a solid foundation for gathering, storing, and extracting critical circulation data." In conjunction with the circulation system, DSI will install Dimensional Insight’s products. Clapp added, “Both systems will support and complement our innovative and on-going marketing efforts.”

Dan Martini, DSI’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, added, “As more and more newspapers realize how important marketing activities have become, they have been turning to DSI’s Oracle based Client/Server product. The underlying design of the system supports this important facet of newspaper circulation operations in many ways, including unlimited demographics, retention, and extensive reporting capabilities, which are just a few of the many features inherent in the DSI circulation software.”

In announcing the agreement, DSI’s President Mark Ganslaw noted the flexibility of DSI/Circulation. “When we began the development of our Client/Server system nine years ago, we selected the Oracle relational database for several reasons. For one, it allows us to be cost effective for newspapers of almost all sizes. We have clients with circulations in the low teens all the way up to over a million. We are, obviously, pleased to be the vendor of choice for a newspaper with Albuquerque Publishing Company’s stature.”

DSI’s home office is in Laurel, MD. In addition to its circulation system, the company also offers an advertising management system, a fully integrated web browser product, postal products from Group 1 Software, analytical tools from Dimensional Insight, route optimization from Route Smart, and interactive speech recognition software from VoicePort.
